SUMMARY:Sheela Na Gigs of Ireland
DESCRIPTION:What are Sheela Na Gigs\, when and where were they placed? Were they obscene or were they goddesses? Let’s examine the history of these fascinating figures\, astronomical symbolism\, their cultural and archaeological significance\, and where they are now. \nLarissa Gibbs has been a practicing neo-pagan since she was a teenager. She did a self dedication at the age of 16 and has never looked back. Over the years\, Larissa has practiced as a solitary pagan\, as well as worked with two covens\, and with her family coven. She was the coordinator for the children’s realm of the Las Cruces Pagan Pride Day event for maybe five years. In 2011\, she became one of the founding members of Desert Spirit CUUPS at the Las Cruces New Mexico Unitarian Universalist Church where she continues to serve as ritual coordinator. She is also a longstanding member and contributor to the Las Cruces-based\, women’s spirituality group\, Moonsisters.  \nLarissa has a BS in biology\, worked as a research biologist for 10 years and now teaches high school biology. She finds that one of the most profound truths in biology is the universal genetic code of life. Scientifically we know that all life is genetically related\, spiritually we can feel at one with all life on Earth. Larissa also looks to history and archaeology to understand past and present human belief systems. Marija Gimbutas’ work with neolithic and Mesolithic imagery and megalithic mounds is very informative for Larissa as well. DESCRIPTION:A coyote is the American “song dog” who has spread all over the United States and beyond; but Coyote\, or Old Man Coyote\, is a teacher\, trickster\, and culture hero of the American Southwest. Several Native American tribes tell his stories\, depicting Coyote as wise\, curious\, bawdy\, adventurous\, reckless\, and sometimes devious. Amber is not Native American\, and cannot provide any special tribal understanding of this enigmatic figure. He’s been privileged to work with people and their bodies from the first week of medical school to retirement 56 years later. After completing a four-year experiential certification training and supervision through the Center for Mind Body Medicine he led body centered mind-body skills groups with his patients for 6 years while group movement space was still available in his office.  Jude’s lived in his body for 70 years. DESCRIPTION:From Krampus to Elf on a Shelf\, Victor Gibbs will present a discussion of the various Yuletide characters who have been seen lurking behind Jolly Saint Nick. \nVictor Gibbs has been a devotee of Paganism since the early 1980s. He grew up in Los Alamos\, spending a lot of time alone in White Rock Canyon. He moved to Las Cruces\, NM in 1983\, where he spent a lot of time climbing in the Organ Mountains. Please join Sterling and the Ardantane gang for a creative and crafty look into spirituality! \nTracey Speyrer\, aka Sterling\, is a member of Our Lady of the Woods (OLW) in White Rock\, New Mexico. Sterling grew up with an eclectic spiritual mother who encouraged her exploration of different religious views and their programs. She self dedicated to the Wiccan tradition in 1996 while leading a very private pagan life. Wiccan philosophy best fit her spiritual needs. In 2021\, Sterling found OLW through their Wicca 101 class. Currently\, she has achieved First Degree. \nSterling has a BA in Psychology for the University of Colorado Denver and a MS in Occupational Health and Safety from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She also has extensive Master’s work in cognitive behavior\, addiction recovery and psychological counseling. Currently\, Sterling is a Health Physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. She has worked within the Department of Energy (DOE) complex\, at five major sites across the county\, for 41 years at various jobs supporting nuclear weapons production. \nAside from studying and practicing Wicca\, Sterling is an accomplished horticulturalist with credentials from the American Rose Society (judge and consulting rosarian). She is an active amateur musician\, playing piccolo\, flute and alto flute with the Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra\, The Los Alamos Community Winds\, and leads the merry group of the Los Alamos Flute Choir. If she has any time left in her day\, she is dabbling in herbology or in some art project; tie dying fabric goods\, painting\, jewelry\, paper and metal craft. Sterling lives in White Rock\, NM with her husband Bill\, three dogs and three cats…never a dull moment in their home. \nThis class is free to supporting members of Ardantane. DESCRIPTION:This is a special day for anyone who trains or teaches others\, in person or online. Some of Ardantane’s very best\, most experienced faculty will share techniques for creating great learning experiences. Among many topics: Where to Begin Class Design; The Importance of Hooks; Teaching to Three Levels of Self\, Participatory and Experiential Learning Activities; Sensing and Using Energy; Working with Visual\, Auditory\, and Kinesthetic Learners; Beyond Knowledge to Skills and Attitudes\, and Behaviors; and much\, much more. Led by Amber K\, who spent her career as a trainer for many government agencies and corporate entities\, she always aims to make courses fun\, student-centered\, and informative. \nThis is an all day program\, starting at 9AM and ending at 5PM. with a break for lunch. \nOne past student said\, “I have a Master’s in Teaching\, but learned more from this class about HOW to teach than I ever did in school!” \nREGISTER BELOW.
