SUMMARY:Demeter
DESCRIPTION:If you’ve been active in the Craft for more than 15 minutes\, you are familiar with the myth of Demeter and Prosephone.  Their story is often used as the basis for equinox rituals at Ostara and Mabon.  But this ancient goddess has many other faces and indeed\, Persephone was not her only child.  She was one of the twelve Olympians\, elder sister to Hades\, Zeus and Poseidon\, and is believed to have played a key role in the Eleusinian Mysteries\, one of the best kept secrets of antiquity.  \nRowan first met Demeter on the pages of Edith Hamilton’s classic Mythology as a teen.  She has long felt a deep connection with the ancient Goddess of the harvest\, agriculture\, health and birth.  Overprotective mother is far from her only role. She has many facets.  Come explore them. \nRowan has been active in the pagan community of northern New Mexico for over 35 years.  She is a third degree initiate of the Ladywoods tradition and currently serves as the Dean of the School of Magick and Witchcraft at Ardantane.  In her mundane life\, she holds a BS in education from UT El Paso\, and an MBA from UNM.  She has taught at festivals in New Mexico and Colorado and nationally\, but enjoys teaching at Ardantane the most. \nThis online class is free to supporting members of Ardantane. Others must register below. Be sure to add the number of tickets you want before clicking the Blue GET TICKETS button. The fee is $10. \nRegistration closes at 5PM Mountain Time on Thursday\, April 6.

His training sources include Essential Partners\, who foster dialogs across differences\, ongoing studies of cultural oppression\, and reviewing programs collecting outcomes data on structural systems change to improve outcomes for marginalized people. He’s passionate about breaking down barriers to help create communities that celebrate each individual and work together to meet each person’s needs. \nThis online class is free to supporting members of Ardantane. Others must register below. Be sure to add the number of tickets you want before clicking the Blue GET TICKETS button. The fee is $10. \nRegistration closes at 5PM Mountain Time on Thursday\, March 30.

SUMMARY:Witchcraft of the Discworld
DESCRIPTION:Witches and witchcraft are frequent sightings in fantasy literature. These fictional representations of witches and magic can range from outrageous to offensive. But Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld fantasy series introduces us to witches (and wizards!) that we might recognize in our own lives. Join Granny Weatherwax\, Nanny Ogg\, Magrat Garlick\, Tiffany Aching\, and their proxy Tara Kiene for this class that is destined  to be equal parts silly and instructive. Beneath the parody\, there’s a lot to learn from the Discworld about witchcraft on the Roundworld (aka earth). \nTara Kiene (she/her) is an active Ardantane student\, teacher. She’s a member of the Colorado CrowWomen coven when she isn’t strumming her ukulele\, belly dancing or playing with her pet rabbits. \nThis class is free to supporting members of Ardantane. Others must register below. Be sure to add the number of tickets you want before clicking the Blue GET TICKETS button. The fee is $10. \nRegistration closes at 5PM Mountain Time on Thursday\, March 23.

SUMMARY:Dwellings: Humans at Home
DESCRIPTION:Home. It’s a powerful word.  In the uncounted generations before history was recorded\, and during the long history of our human species\, what have we found or created as our homes… our havens… our sanctuaries\, our redoubts\, or centers of family life? \nLet’s explore our special places\, from trees to caves to beehive huts\, to palaces and modern solar houses and future habitats on other worlds. SUMMARY:What is Pagan?
DESCRIPTION:We have grappled with the concept of ‘spirituality.’ In this seminar we take on the concept of ‘P/pagan.’ What does the word mean to you? How do you define or explain being Pagan\, or a Pagan? Is Pagan only one of the collection of modern\, mostly Western European practices and belief systems included in a list such as: Wiccan\, Asatru\, Druid\, Heathen\, and so on? Is it more complex than that? More widespread? Then\, what do we\, at Ardantane mean when we use it in naming a school or a class? \nJoin Amber K as we delve into the concept of Pagan\, its root meaning\, its usage and finally\, its coupling with our understanding of spirituality. \nAmber K is a third degree priestess of the Wiccan faith. She was initiated at the Temple of the Pagan Way in Chicago and served on the Council of Elders there. Her books on magick and the Craft have been widely circulated in the United States and Europe\, and for nearly 25 years she has traveled across the U.S. teaching the Craft. SUMMARY:How Does Death Look to You?
DESCRIPTION:Carl Jung said much about death and dying\, in this seminar we will consider his assertion that every person “ought to have a myth about death\, for reason shows [one] nothing but the dark pit into which he is descending.” What is a myth about death? Do we acquire it? Create it? Why? How? What does death look like to you? \nWe will explore our feelings of fear\, and/or comfort with death. We will wonder about the death culture we grew up with\, and the one we practice now. Metaphors around the concepts of death\, dying and the afterlife will be examined and parsed. Who our helpers are or may be as we move from life to death will also be shared and explored. Join Moonbeam Mage as we aspire to realize a myth that will allow a life in alignment with our instincts around death and dying\, rather than in opposition to them. \nAmber K is a third degree priestess of the Wiccan faith. SUMMARY:Ardantane Hosts Yule Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to an open Yule (Winter Solstice) celebration at the Ardantane campus\, on Saturday December 17 at 6:30 pm.\n \nThe specific theme changes from year to year\, but always includes recognizing the longest night of the year\, and the rebirth of the sun as the days grow longer. Bring a dish or beverage to share! Families are welcome; there is no charge\, though donations are always helpful.\n\n \n    If you can take time to RSVP below\, it helps us with our planning.

SUMMARY:Yule Traditions
DESCRIPTION:In an earlier Friday Seminar this month\, we talked about “the nature of giving.” One of the directions my mind takes when thinking in that context is about the confluence of Yule\, the Solstice and Christmas. \nThere are numerous and more than enough thoughts\, tales\, analyses and discussions of the origins of each and all. Still\, I wonder. What is the root\, or the mycelium (?) which has made our melding of these 3 traditions – not entirely disparate but different in some fundamental ways\, on the other hand – so easy to meld within our contemporary culture? \nNow I invite you to join a seminar discussion which in my mind follows that track\, and in timely fashion. Let’s gather to ponder the Yule season as we modern day Pagans celebrate it… wish to celebrate it… are ready to celebrate it…? Applying our shared wisdom\, from life learning and from our recent exploration of the notion of the maternal gift economy we will examine our practices\, our reasons\, but most of all\, our inspirations behind what we do. \nMoonbeam Mage caught a glimpse of the path that might be some twenty-five years ago. Fifteen years ago she heard herself asserting that she was on that path\, and has solidly placed one foot after the other upon it since. In 2010 she found Ardantane and began her pursuit of all that formal training in the Craft could offer. In 2014\, she received the Ardantane Level Three\, Master of Magick and Witchcraft Certificate. She is also a third degree initiate of the Ladywood tradition of the Craft. \nThis class is free to supporting members of Ardantane. Others must register below. Be sure to add the number of tickets you want before clicking the Blue GET TICKETS button. The fee is $10. \nRegistration closes on 5 PM on Thursday\, December 15.

SUMMARY:Volunteer Work Day
DESCRIPTION:We work from 8:00 or 9:00 AM\, depending on the season… starting earlier in summer\, later in winter. We begin with a simple opening ceremony\, and end sometime in the afternoon\, usually around 4:00 PM—but you can come at any time during the day. (Some folks do special projects at other times\, to fit their personal schedules\, by arrangement with the Director.) \nVolunteers who work a “full” day—six hours or more—receive $40 in Beaver Bucks (applicable to any Ardantane event fee). Those who work 3-4 hours receive $20 in Beaver Bucks. First-timers are awarded the Blessed Beaver patch (embroidered emblem) to wear proudly on a cap or work shirt. Everyone receives free lunch and beverages\, as well as healthy exercise and camaraderie. Bring your sun hat and work gloves (we have loaners if you need them). \nContact Azrael Arryn K at azraelak@gmail.com for directions and information.

SUMMARY:Magickal Names
DESCRIPTION:Long ago\, people chose new names to disguise their identities and be safe from persecution. Even today\, some Pagans choose or are given special magickal names for use within their spiritual family\, or among the Pagan community generally\, or everywhere. Yet special\, secret names can also be part of an alchemical journey of self-exploration and transformation. \nA new name can reflect who you are at a deep level\, or it can represent the person you want to become. But any new name can encourage you to discover new facets of yourself. Join us for a lively exploration and discussion of names\, naming\, and the changes they can ignite. \nAmber K is the author of True Magick and has co-authored other books on the Craft and magick with Azrael Arynn K\, including the new edition of CovenCraft\, Candlemas\, The Heart of Tarot\, and the award-winning RitualCraft. She is also the Executive Director of Ardantane\, and Dean of the School of Pagan Leadership. \nThis class is free to supporting members of Ardantane. Others must register below. Be sure to add the number of tickets you want before clicking the Blue GET TICKETS button. The fee is $10. \nRegistration closes at 5PM Mountain Time on Thursday\, December 8th.

SUMMARY:Giving
DESCRIPTION:December 2\, @ 7-9 PM Mountain Time \nHave you ever pondered the primacy of “giving-receiving?” Do you know of the “hidden maternal gift economy?” Would you be interested in a discussion which connects these concepts to “the free gifts of nature?” These will be the core concepts framing our exploration in “The Nature of Giving.” Specifically\, we will explore a certain\, Mother – based perspective on giving and receiving. \nMoonbeam Mage invites you to join this thought provoking discussion. There is every possibility that it will stir your Pagan Self! In large part based on the research and writings of Genevieve Vaughan\, this seminar will introduce us to a perspective on the nature of giving\, our nature as human beings and the nature of an economy we have grown to accept. \nOffered in the spirit of “where do we go from here?” \nMoonbeam Mage caught a glimpse of the path that might be some twenty-five years ago. \nRegistration closes on 5 PM on Thursday\, December 1.
