SUMMARY:Marija Gimbutas
DESCRIPTION:The archaeologist Marija Gimbutas was one of very few to synthesize and attempt to draw conclusions about ancient European Goddess figurines and the possibility of a Goddess culture. Join Larissa Gibbs for an introduction to Dr. Gimbutas’ explanations of these fascinating artifacts. We will discuss the material culture and the implications\, if any\, for modern neo-paganism. \nLarissa Gibbs has been a practicing neo-pagan since she was a teenager. She did a self dedication at the age of 16 and has never looked back. Over the years\, Larissa has practiced as a solitary pagan\, as well as worked with two covens\, and with her family coven. She was the coordinator for the children’s realm of the Las Cruces Pagan Pride Day event for maybe five years. In 2011\, she became one of the founding members of Desert Spirit CUUPS at the Las Cruces New Mexico Unitarian Universalist Church where she continues to serve as ritual coordinator. She is also a longstanding member and contributor to the Las Cruces-based\, women’s spirituality group\, Moonsisters. Larissa has a BS in biology\, worked as a research biologist for 10 years and now teaches high school biology. She finds that one of the most profound truths in biology is the universal genetic code of life. Scientifically we know that all life is genetically related\, spiritually we can feel at one with all life on Earth. Larissa also looks to history and archaeology to understand past and present human belief systems. Marija Gimbutas’ work with neolithic and Mesolithic imagery and megalithic mounds is very informative for Larissa as well. Larissa feels that science informs our world view and paganism gives us a way to contextualize our place in the world. \n\nThis class is free to supporting members of Ardantane.  Others must register below. Be sure to add the number of tickets you want before clicking the Blue GET TICKETS button. The fee is $10. \n\n\nRegistration closes at 5PM Mountain Time on Thursday\, August 28th.

SUMMARY:Queen Medb of Cruachan
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, we will explore the powerful and complex figure of Queen Medb of Cruachan\, a central character in Irish mythology and a potent symbol within modern pagan practice. We’ll delve into the Ulster Cycle\, particularly the Táin Bó Cúailnge\, to examine Medb’s role as a warrior queen\, her sovereignty over land and people\, and her embodiment of divine feminine power. The session will include a blend of mythological storytelling\, historical context\, and spiritual interpretation\, considering how Medb has been viewed as both a historical archetype and a living deity within Celtic and pagan traditions. \nMaeve has been active in the Denver area Druid community for many years. \n\nThis class is free to supporting members of Ardantane.  Others must register below. Be sure to add the number of tickets you want before clicking the Blue GET TICKETS button. The fee is $10. \n\n\nRegistration closes at 5PM Mountain Time on Thursday\, August 21st.

SUMMARY:Pagan Tenets
DESCRIPTION:Join Larissa Gibbs as she leads a discussion as to what it means to be Pagan. We each have our own individual gifts to bring to our spiritual path\, but how can we express that to others? What rules do we live by? How do we answer the big questions of life and death\, and how do we celebrate our path? Larissa will look at historical aspects of various pagan tenets from different authors and councils. How do these tenets apply to the neo-pagan community today? \nLarissa Gibbs has been a practicing neo-pagan since she was a teenager. She did a self dedication at the age of 16 and has never looked back. Over the years\, Larissa has practiced as a solitary pagan\, as well as worked with two covens\, and with her family coven. SUMMARY:Large Group Ritual
DESCRIPTION:Large Group Ritual: designing great ones and getting the most out of them as a participant. Azrael\,  Bridget and Faellina have designed dozens of large group rituals during their combined 100+ years as priestesses\, and most of them came off really well. Some were fantastic!! Let’s learn and share together! \nAzrael Arynn K is a third-degree priestess in the Ladywood Tradition. She is an active longtime member of the Albuquerque community and has taught Wicca for the last 20 years. She has been a coven leader\, teacher and Ardantane Board Member for many years\, teaching the basics of Wiccan practice and belief many times\, to many different audiences. \nFaellina is a third degree priestess in the Ladywood Tradition\, and has led lagre-group rituals for over 30 years.  The most recent was the Wild Hunt at Mystuc Mabon SW 2024\, and she will use that experience to illustrate the Large Group Ritual planning and performance process. \n\n  \nThis class is free to supporting members of Ardantane.  Others must register below. SUMMARY:(Re) Creating Your Own Daily Spiritual Practice
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a daily practice—or several—that keep you healthy\, happy\, and balanced? Does it include meditation\, divination\, music\, running\, or time with the family dog? What about pranayama\, the Middle Pillar\, or a visit to an astral temple? What about a conversation with a deity or tree spirit? Daily spiritual practices are as diverse as humanity. We can hope that yours is engaging\, effective\, and in balance. But does it need to expand\, evolve\, or change? Join the discussion with Amber K\, who has served as a Wiccan priestess for 45 years and has seen some different approaches to self-maintenance and spiritual growth. \nAmber K is a third degree priestess of the Wiccan faith. SUMMARY:The Bardic Way Part 2: Making It Real...The Bardic Way
DESCRIPTION:Drums beating in the night\, calling and responding with exotic and intricate rhythmic phrases…a rowdy group of combat veterans at the table in the corner of the club\, drinking and laughing\, helping each other remember the worst moments of their lives…robed and hooded figures circling around the fire\, chanting and dancing\, invoking unfathomable cosmic energies…a mother softly singing to the newborn in her arms in a private language that she makes up in the moment\, but that the child has known since before the cord was cut… \nThese are some of the endlessly diverse ways in which people engage in the same single practice of telling our stories. And stories as we know are the raw materials from which we create\, or confound\, our shared reality from one brief moment to the next. \nIn the first part of this series on The Bardic Way\, we followed the cultural and historical pathways of the storytellers in many civilizations and historical periods that have shaped traditions\, held memories\, instilled beliefs\, and imagined futures for their societies. And through that common lens of storytelling we identified them all\, and by extension ourselves\, as true Bards\, together dismantling and recreating our worlds with every breath. \nIn this seminar\, we’ll look at many of the Bardic practices that we employ in our circles and rituals and magickal workings\, and we’ll examine the idea that\, by actively and consciously including these practices in our daily living and personal relationships\, we can craft a society that rises above the fractured narratives of our times and tells instead a story of simplicity\, empathy\, and diversity…of a community traveling together on the path of the Bardic Way.  \nBraeden C (he\, him) has been a practicing Wiccan for 30 years\, a Pagan in spirit for twice that\, and is a lifelong hand drummer and singer of the stories. He is an initiate in the West Coast Eclectic tradition through the Circle of the Winter Moon and has led numerous ritual circles in the Four Corners community. Braeden also served on the Ardantane board of directors in the early days\, and recalls tramping around the local deserts and mountainsides with the founders\, looking for a home for this special institution! Braeden has since taken a Master’s degree in Conflict Resolution and traded the beautiful New Mexico desert for the rugged coastline and redwood forests of northern California\, where he practices family mediation in the state Superior Court for Humboldt County. \nThis class is free to supporting members of Ardantane. Others must register  below. Be sure to add the number of tickets you want before clicking the Blue GET TICKETS button. The fee is $10. \nRegistration closes at 5PM Mountain Time on Thursday\, July 17th.

SUMMARY:Refreshing Your Spiritual Life
DESCRIPTION:What do we do when our religious practices start to feel… meh? How can we keep our feet on our path for the long term\, through authentic personal practice and deepening connection with deity? \nHow do we keep our practice vital and relevant for years and decades? And how do we help those newer to Paganism do the same? We certainly aren’t going to push some “One True Faith\,” but there are some things we can each adapt\, to revitalize our unique and various spiritual paths. What are the tools we use to keep our practice fresh? And how do we get past crises of faith? \nAmber K is a third degree priestess of the Wiccan faith. She was initiated at the Temple of the Pagan Way in Chicago and served on the Council of Elders there. Her books on magick and the Craft have been widely circulated in the United States and Europe\, and for 35 years she has traveled across the U.S. teaching the Craft. She has worked with Circle and the Re-Formed Congregation of the Goddess\, and served as National First Officer of the Covenant of the Goddess for three terms. She is a founder of Our Lady of the Woods and the Ladywood Tradition of Wicca\, and currently is Executive Director of Ardantane. \nLora Jackson Legare has been a practicing Wiccan for 35 years. She is a professional archaeologist\, professor of anthropology\, artist and writer. She has led numerous public rituals in southern New Mexico and conducted workshops and classes on developing connections with Celtic Goddesses and Gods\, stone magick\, and magickal correspondences\, and led many guided meditations. \nThis class is free to supporting members of Ardantane. Others must register  below. Be sure to add the number of tickets you want before clicking the Blue GET TICKETS button. SUMMARY:The Broom Closet
DESCRIPTION:Join Rowan and Lora for a discussion of The Broom Closet. \nTo kick things off\, Rowan will share a fun quiz to help you determine if you are in or out of the Broom Closet\, and discuss where you want to be on the delicate issue of how\, or if\, to be a public witch.  As with many things in the craft\, there is no right answer\, only thoughtful alternatives. \nIt seems to us that in these difficult times\, revisiting this topic is more than warranted. Further\, if you are already out and can’t get back in\, how can you deal with the current climate? Lora and Rowan have ideas\, of course\, and they’d also like to hear yours. \nLora Jackson has been a practicing Wiccan for 35 years. \nRowan has been active in the pagan community of northern New Mexico for over 35 years.  She is a third degree initiate of the Ladywoods tradition and currently serves as the Dean of the School of Magick and Witchcraft at Ardantane.  In her mundane life\, she holds a BS in education from UT El Paso\, and an MBA from UNM.  She has taught at festivals in New Mexico and Colorado and nationally\, but enjoys teaching at Ardantane the most. \nThis class is free to supporting members of Ardantane. SUMMARY:Myths: The Stories of You
DESCRIPTION:We all read some myths in school–usually Greek stories\, about Theseus and the Minotaur or other heroes and gods from long ago. Fun\, but what do these ancient tales have to do with modern people living today? What could they possibly mean to me or you?\n\nEverything\, as it turns out. The old stories have lasted for thousands of years because they hold truths about humanity; because with allegory and symbol and maybe-fictional characters\, they speak to our own lives even today.\n\n\nOnce we understand the language of myth\, we can even write our own life stories in mythic form… and use them to light the way forward in our lives. We are all the heroes and heroines of our tales\, on our unique quests\, battling ogres in different forms\, seeking our personal holy grails or the hand of the princess or the path that leads home.\n\n\nJoin Amber K as we explore the world of myth\, the stories about you.\n\n\nAmber is the Executive Director of Ardantane\, a Wiccan priestess for over 45 years\, and an occasional storyteller.\n\n\n\nThis class is free to supporting members of Ardantane.  Others must register below. Be sure to add the number of tickets you want before clicking the Blue GET TICKETS button. The fee is $10. \n\n\nRegistration closes at 5PM Mountain Time on Thursday\, June 19th.

SUMMARY:Volunteer Work Day May 2025
DESCRIPTION:Contribute your energy\, time\, and talents to the upkeep of our beautiful campus near Jemez Springs\, New Mexico. We work from 8:00 or 9:00 AM\, depending on the season… starting earlier in summer\, later in winter. We begin with a simple opening ceremony\, and end sometime in the afternoon\, usually around 4:00 PM—but you can come at any time during the day. (Some folks do special projects at other times\, to fit their personal schedules\, by arrangement with the Director.) \nVolunteers who work a “full” day—six hours or more—receive $40 in Beaver Bucks (applicable to any Ardantane event fee). Those who work 3-4 hours receive $20 in Beaver Bucks. First-timers are awarded the Blessed Beaver patch (embroidered emblem) to wear proudly on a cap or work shirt. Everyone receives free lunch and beverages\, as well as healthy exercise and camaraderie. \nBring your sun hat and work gloves (we have loaners if you need them). \nContact Azrael Arryn K at azraelak@gmail.com for directions and information. RSVP below if you like.
