SUMMARY:Magickal Symbols
DESCRIPTION:Ever since the first paint was applied to a Paleolithic cavern wall\, and the first petroglyph was scratched on to an ancient boulder\, humans have sought to harness the power of magickal symbols. This four-week online class will explore the history and modern usage of symbols\, with emphasis on Western cultures\, but including examples from cultures worldwide as well. Included are Elemental signs\, Futhark and bindrunes\, talismanic sigils\, alchemical signs\, designing your own sigils for magick and spiritual work\, and much\, much more. \nHeld 4 Tuesdays in June: June 3\, 10\, 17\, 24 from 7-9 p.m. MT \nAmber K is a third degree priestess of the Wiccan faith. She was initiated at the Temple of the Pagan Way in Chicago and served on the Council of Elders there. Her books on magick and the Craft have been widely circulated in the United States and Europe\, and for 35 years she has traveled across the U.S. teaching the Craft. She has worked with Circle and the Re-Formed Congregation of the Goddess\, and served as National First Officer of the Covenant of the Goddess for three terms. She is a founder of Our Lady of the Woods and the Ladywood Tradition of Wicca\, and currently is Executive Director of Ardantane\, a Wiccan/Pagan seminary is northern New Mexico. \nRegister using the “Get Tickets” button below. DESCRIPTION:We all read some myths in school–usually Greek stories\, about Theseus and the Minotaur or other heroes and gods from long ago. Fun\, but what do these ancient tales have to do with modern people living today? What could they possibly mean to me or you?\n\nEverything\, as it turns out. The old stories have lasted for thousands of years because they hold truths about humanity; because with allegory and symbol and maybe-fictional characters\, they speak to our own lives even today.\n\n\nOnce we understand the language of myth\, we can even write our own life stories in mythic form… and use them to light the way forward in our lives. We are all the heroes and heroines of our tales\, on our unique quests\, battling ogres in different forms\, seeking our personal holy grails or the hand of the princess or the path that leads home.\n\n\nJoin Amber K as we explore the world of myth\, the stories about you.\n\n\nAmber is the Executive Director of Ardantane\, a Wiccan priestess for over 45 years\, and an occasional storyteller.\n\n\n\nThis class is free to supporting members of Ardantane.  Others must register below. DESCRIPTION:Long ago our ancestors lived in trees or caves\, and had no doors. Now they’re everywhere\, and surrounded by legends\, magick\, custom and tradition. They can lock things out\, let people in\, or offer tantalizing glimpses of unfamiliar cultures and worlds. Let’s look at a selection of doors around the world and glean their messages; and let’s explore their stories and traditions\, from Jewish mezuzahs to the Gaelic first-foot to Greek squill onions and Danish dish-throwing.
