DESCRIPTION:An introduction to the Old Religion\, the Craft of the Wise; with history\, gods and goddesses\, magick and ritual\, spiritual practices\, customs and traditions\, covens and solitaries\, cosmology and myths\, the Wheel of the Year and more\, from experienced Witches. This class will be taught over four evenings online (Tuesdays from November 12 through December 3). Students will be asked to complete assignments between classes to further their understanding and experience with the subjects covered. \nThis course is FREE to anyone interested in learning the basic principles of Wicca. Register below. \nRegistration closes at 5PM on November 11. \nBridget and Rowan have a combined total of over 70 years of experience practicing and teaching Wicca to students of all backgrounds and skill levels. SUMMARY:The Witch Trials in Abiquiu\, NM
DESCRIPTION:A little-studied witchcraft trial took place at Abiquiu\, New Mexico\, between 1756 and 1766.  The witchcraft outbreak took place less than a century after the Pueblo Revolt and symbolized a resistance by the Genízaros (hispanicized Indians) of Abiquiu to forced Christianization. The response of the Church and the Spanish government stand in sharp contrast to the pattern set in Salem 150 years earlier.  We will examine the unique history of this tiny New Mexico village\, the nature of the accusations made and the response of the Spanish colonial governor and the Church. \nRowan has been active in the pagan community of northern New Mexico for over 35 years.  She is a third degree initiate of the Ladywoods tradition and currently serves as the Dean of the School of Magick and Witchcraft at Ardantane.  In her mundane life\, she holds a BS in education from UT El Paso\, and an MBA from UNM.  She has taught at festivals in New Mexico and Colorado and nationally\, but enjoys teaching at Ardantane the most. \nThis online class is free to supporting members of Ardantane.
